Tao Climate Carbon Removal Project – Ukraine
Partnership with Hemp Ukraine Recover
In partnership with Hemp Ukraine Recover, Tao Climate has launched a pioneering carbon removal project in Ukraine that turns hemp farming into a force for climate and humanitarian good. By growing and processing industrial hemp into carbon-sequestering hempcrete, this project delivers multiple, independently verified impacts.

Multiple Verified Impacts
Our Ukraine project removes CO2 from the atmosphere using nature and science, delivering:
- 500 tonnes of net CO2 removal, with all emissions from cultivation, transport, and manufacturing subtracted from the gross carbon capture to ensure real, additional climate benefits.
- 170 people housed in hempcrete homes that are energy-efficient, safe, and sustainable.
- Displacement of cement emissions, as hempcrete requires no Portland cement – a major source of industrial CO2 emissions.
- Sustainable agriculture expansion, with land converted to regenerative, hemp-based cultivation that supports soil health and biodiversity.
- Public engagement, reaching thousands with our message of real, trustworthy, science-backed carbon removal.
Certified by Google’s Startups for Sustainable Development Programme
Tao Climate is a proud member of the Google Startups for Sustainable Development Programme, which has recognised and certified the measurable impact of our Ukraine project. Google has independently verified the results as part of our participation in this programme.
Part of the XPRIZE Carbon Removal Global Top 100
This project was central to Tao Climate’s submission to the XPRIZE Carbon Removal Challenge, where we were selected as one of the Top 100 Carbon Removal Companies in the World. This recognition affirms our innovative use of hemp, AI, and measurement technology to deliver measurable, verifiable climate action at scale.
Transparency Through MRV Technology
All project data – from crop yield and carbon intensity to housing outcomes – is tracked and verified using Tao Climate’s proprietary MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) platform. This ensures complete transparency, accountability, and traceability for every tonne of CO2 removed.
Our upcoming carbon removal partner projects will include satellite imaging of carbon removal and sequestration. We’re not showing such images from our Ukraine project out of an abundance of caution.
A Model for Climate, Housing and Peace
Beyond carbon removal, this project shows how sustainable innovation can support Ukraine’s rebuilding effort. With each home built, each hectare planted, and each tonne of CO2 stored, we are creating a new model for post-conflict recovery and resilient climate infrastructure.
